The Art of the Bow

My wife bought me a copy of the Rabbath DVD. I'm eager to watch it. I'm very new to the bow. I own an inexpensive German bow and I see this DVD is about French. I realize it's held very differently. Should I get a French bow if I'm going to work on this DVD?

Since you're not already playing German (at least not much, from what you said), I probably would get a French bow. Pretty much everything in the DVD is applicable to both bows, but it would probably be easier to take in the information on French bow if you're new to the bow. This DVD is invaluable. Good luck, and have fun!

It also helps to have a teacher who knows the rabbath bow strokes really well. Sometimes the language barrier is a problem, and other times, it just doesn't sink in untill I hear it a different way. If you watch the silent motion study and see what's really going on, you can learn a lot though.
