drone

Hello All.

I'm after a bit of advice concerning maintaining a drone. I wont see my teacher for a while and I have a rehearsal with my band soon so any help would be great.

I have no real problem holding a single note drone (making the bow direction change as indestinct as possible) but the piece i am writing at the moment requires a double stop drone on the first B on the G string and the harmonic over the G on the D string played piano.

I think the p is the problem as the strings aren't vibrating enough to allow me to lessen the bow pressure at the point of changing direction.

I've experimented playing it louder, but the results aren't that much better.

If anyone has any tips on double-stop-with-harmonic-drones I'd love to hear them

Thanks
Thomas

It sounds like it is a clarrity issue. Maybe your fingers aren't in the exact spot?

I just tried that double stop. When I play it I hear the bow change much more than when I bow a single stop.

Thanks Macnaire, but no my fingers are in the right spot. I fiddled around to find exactly where the harmonic "speaks" best.

Thanks for playing the notes John. I think I will have to just accept hearing the direction change.

It isn't the end of the world.
