| I did it a few years back and it was fantastic. You live for a month on Vancouver Island, and every other day you play for Gary in masterclasses while his partner, Harmon, accompanies you if you want. Their cute little white fluffy dog naps on the floor all day. Other people play on the days that you don't, and then after you play in bass ensembles with Gary and then you can go practice or just enjoy the island.
He also has you over to his gorgeous house, feeds you and plays recitals in his studio. He used to have the amati there and we all took our turns playing on it.
He's a great guy, but a very strong advocate of very slow bows right at the bridge for all playing, including orchestral playing. He also makes everyone stand, so leave your stool at home. He's' extremely specific about his technique and I was advised to take everything with a grain of salt, which I did, and had an amazing time.
Everyone else that does the kamp is great, (and the drinking age is 19! which I took full advantage of at that time) and we would go out to the local pubs and restaurants. |
