Orchestral teacher in West London

Hi all,

I am looking for a dedicated orchestral technique teacher in the West London area.

I’m an adult student. I’ve been learning double bass for a little over two and a half years, but focused entirely on jazz. My jazz teacher taught me enough arco to get my intonation solid and my hand strength up, but aside from that, I have been focussed on jazz.

The last couple months, I’ve been putting more time into arco, circa an hour a day. But I don’t think the progress is coming as it should. And I want to keep my jazz teacher focused on jazz.

For what it’s worth, I’m on about page 19 of Simandl. At the moment, I’m using a German grip carbon bow, because I never got comfortable with a French grip – but I’d be happy to change to a French grip if a teacher could get me comfortable.

Does anyone have any suggestions and contact details for teachers in the area who might be able to help me?

Best wishes,
Anthony White

If you don't get a reply here, try the UK's BassChat. Its mainly a forum for electric bass but there are some DB teachers listed on there (as well as DB chat sub-forums). I have had a lesson from Jake Newman (who plays in lots of London shows and is as adept on DB as he is 5-string electric) but I don't know how he is with bowing/orchestral as I play pizz. You could always ask his advice?http://basschat.co.uk/forum/26-tutors-available/
