Question on Bowing Simandl Etude #22

My teacher is out of town this weekend, otherwise I would probably be at a lesson right now playing Simandl #22.

I think the marks in the first measure are accent marks, not upbows. I compared this to other occasional upbow markings in earlier etudes. Am I correct, and how would you bow the first three notes of the measures in that section?

Thanks for any feedback!

Its ^, but, in this case, it is in bold, and the other upbow markings in other etudes are not in bold.

That "^" is the equivalent of a dotted accent.

Just looked at number 22, those are accents, and should be played down-up-down

Thanks Guys!

After thinking about this and getting these replies, yes, makes perfect sense to play this down, up, down, and it works.
