Sul Poticello

Could somebody please explain to me this technique and how to use it. Also there is a technique that involves hitting the bow stick on the strings. I don't know the name of this technique, but again, an explaination would be helpful. Thank You for your patience with me in learning arco again.

Sul ponticello is played very close to the bridge. The sound has no fundamental and is screetchy.

Hitting the strings with the stick of the bow i called col legno.
