Teacher recommendations, Nashville / Clarksville TN?

Hey folks,

I originally posted this in the wrong forum ... deleted that and am reposting here, which is, I hope, the correct place!

I'm moving to the Nashville area in a month or so, and am interested in finding a teacher. Currently, I play almost all pizz, in folk / blues / country styles. I do have a background in classical music (voice and flute), but not on bass. I'm interested in branching out and learning orchestral arco the right way, as opposed to the messing around I've been doing, and am also wanting to try to break all the bad habits I've acquired by being self taught. I'd also like to do some more jazz playing (played in small combos in college, but thatwas a while ago). I *think* I prefer German bow as far as arco goes, but am open to being persuaded otherwise.

Any recommendations for a teacher for both orchestral and jazz technique?

Thanks!
Liam

There a 6 to choose from here. Leave a message with the symphony for a few of them.

Thank you very much. Before I deleted the thread I started in the wrong section, someone recommended the principal of the NSO as well. After looking at the link you provided, I realized that both he and the assistant principal are also faculty member at Vanderbilt's Blair School of Music. I'm going to be working for Vanderbilt when I move, so perhaps I can arrange something with one of them, or one of their students.

Thanks again, and thanks also to Thedbassist, who replied to my post in the other section.

Joel and Glen both play German bow. If you are interested in French, then check out Ryan or Kristen. Best of luck.

I take lessons from Ryan and could not have asked for a better teacher! I have been very fortunate to have found him. Let me know if you'd be interested and I can put you in contact with him. Even though he plays French, I wanted to learn German and he has helped alot. He said Joel would be willing to give me some "pointers" if it was something Ryan couldn't help me with. They're a bunch of nice people.

BTW, I work at Vanderbilt. It's the medical center. Will you be working on campus or the med center?

Hey! Awesome!

Yes, I'd be very interested in getting in contact, maybe once I move?

Thanks!
