Fingerpicking Two-Note Chords On Adjacent Strings

I'm looking for advice on whether it's a better idea to rake one finger over both strings, or to pluck each string simultaneously with two different fingers. The piece I'm trying to play is actually classical-style music, but this info could be just as useful in other styles as well...

Whatever sounds better. But if you are playing a classical piece down to the letter, it would tell you if you should rake the notes or play them in unison. But a one fingered rake would arpeggiate the chord, then the two notes would form a chord.

I usually use my thumb and forefinger - you can either hit the notes together or one before the other easy that way. but like the other cat says, whatever works for you. actually, raking one finger over both strings is sort of like strumming w/a pick. I do that sometimes too. it's all what you want to come out from the bass - there is no one right way.
