Quick question for Watt

Are you using the stock two saddle bridge on your 56 P-bass? If so, do/did you have much trouble getting it intonated?

yes, I'm using the stock bridge and though the intonation is not perfect cuz of having to compromise a bit, it's still pretty good - surprisingly! the strings can come up through the body too, like it was designed for.
