$50 bass guitar kit from eBay

Anybody has experience with these kits?

They are usually sold by "nationalmusicsupply" and usually reach $50 in bidding, but shipping is $35 (still cheaper than a Saga kit).

When asked, the seller told me it was alder/maple/rosewood.

I then asked if they were the same as the Saga kit, but no answer.

I know this would not make the best guitar, but I am just looking for a project to learn to paint guitar bodies and necks.

What do you think?

45 bux gets you an unfinished SX Jazz body. And if you like the results of your paint job you''ve got an excellent platform to build the resto of the bass on with alot of TB research on what fits etc.

Heck you could get an entire finished bass for between 100-110 before shiping and also learn to strip and refinsh lol

Well I have stripped and repainted motorcycle parts, I actually am relatively good at it.

I thought I could somehow marry both worlds.

My first idea was to pick up a cheap copy from the pawn shop as a test platform, so to speak, for stripping and painting.

I wish I had a space to paint I'd love to give it a try. Plus it would be cool to open up that possibility.

Good luck in what ever direction you choose and don't forget to post pix.

The issue with spray painting is dust. The first time I spray painted something, hundreds of particles of dust landed on my part and I had to restrip and redo, this time converting a cabinet in my garage for the purpose.

I don't have cars in my garage, only bikes and tools. But as I age, I realize my bikes are just gathering dust as well, and I will probably sell them all except for one.

Which means $$$ for new gear but I thought I could get more into woodworking, and do more serious stuff.

Yeah, I know, I'm getting old

Heck I'd try it if I were you. Paint it and if you don't like it sell on the bay for 50 bucks. Someone will buy it.

Wonder if the neck pocket would accept Fender or Warmoth or whatever... Keep us posted on this, I'm super-interested.
