Hey guys! Well today I finished assembling and setting up my first instrument built from the ground up. I know it's not a bass, but I'm just too excited not to share. Here are the specs.

22 fret, 25" scale
Mahogany back/neck
Cocobolo fingerboard
Flamed Koa top
Master volume, master tone, 3-way (Kept it simple)
Seymour Duncan Jazz in the neck, and JB at the bridge.
Cream binding, pearl headstock inlay.
Schaller tuners w/ebony knobs
Gotoh wraparound bridge

It sounds amazing. Playing it was a blast, but I think it was even cooler seeing other people jam out on it. I could only get a couple of pictures right now, my batteries ran out, but I'll try to get some more later! Let me know what you think! A bass is going to be underway pretty soon.

P.S. - the black pickup rings will be replaced soon (that's all they had, and I had to get it playing!!!) and it looks a little dirty in the pictures because I spent all of today handling it and putting the parts in!!! And please note that the H in Holt is made up of bass clefs

Sweet!

Nice work; I especially like the flamed top.

Thank you all for the kind words

Cerb, it's flattering that you even remembered the project, not to mention you were looking forward to seeing it done!!!

Thanks guys! The double-cut version of this guitar is already underway, and a bass WILL be coming very soon

Really sweet!

Considering that it is a guitar...shouldn't you have had a treble clef for "l" or "t" in the logo???

Really nice, Ray!

I like the headstock shape, it's great with the body shape.

That's a very nice body shape. It also looks well built. Ever considered making a baritone/bass vi-type of guitar with that body shape?

Just a couple more pictures! This is right before I plugged it in for the first time

Doing the binding wasn't too bad really. It's easy enough to glue on (a little messy), the part that's a pain is sanding the sides flush again and scraping the binding flush with the top. I've definitely considered a baritone... I'm looking forward to building all kinds of instruments. I like the lower ranges... so we'll see what comes out. maybe a harp guitar someday And I'm not sure about the humbucker rings. I actually made a jig for making wooden pickup rings, so if I can find enough scrap I might try that. That would look best I think. I'll have to see how creme would look though!

Ray-
Congrats on an awesome first build! The body shape is very nice. I'm thinkin' it would make a comfortable bass body, and your excellent job on the binding is steering me back to using it on a current build. Absolutely fine job! Keep it up!
