"13strings". bass criminal?

Sign in to disble this ad
I believe whole heartedly that the man who created the 13 string "bass" on youtube, is a fraud, and a lutherie criminal. All he did was glue and duct tape pieces of lumber together, sand it, paint it, and put some strings on it. It has a 26" scale, and to me.... that seems a weeeeee bit short, about 4 inches or so, lol. Now he's working on a 14 string Bass/baritone/guitar. sorry if i seem hostile, this guy just really boils my eggs lol.

What's everyone elses feelings on this man and his "bass".

PS, I love Extended Range Basses

PPS, noone has ever heard this bass played, and he claims that he "screwed up the wiring".

It's an interesting claim. He claims to have built the first 13 string bass, but:

1. The bass isn't tuned.

2. It doesn't work.

3. It is made of pine that was glued up with duct tape.

I don't think that it could possibly be the world's first 13 string bass any more than someone who had a bass with 4 strings and tied 9 pieces of string to it. In fact, at least that bass would be 4/13s functional.

The comments are ridiculous too. I can't believe the number of people that think this guy has some kind of talent and is thinking outside the box. I sure didn't see any of that. I saw a person with no talent who simply added 1 to 12 and went with the next logical number of strings.

Agreed. Plus, the design is hideous.

I know your all very impressed, but hold it right there fellas! This "Superbass" is old hat at this point. I'm gonna totally out-do this guy!!

Here are the specs:

35 string 26" scale super-duper-bass
1 piece quarter-sawn, air dried, balsa wood neck.
Fretless 96 fret pine fingerboard w/o fret markers
Mdf body with fixed intonated mdf bridge.
35 strings! Tune to your own custom specifications!(not included)
ready for your own 35 string pu! (ni)
ready to paint! Personalize your new bass!

Own the world's first 35 string bass!!! Be the envy of your friends and remember, I made the world's first 35 string bass!

thanks.... I hoped people thought the same..... he's building a 14 string, this man needs to be stopped. I think Chris Stambaugh, Bill Conklin, Ken Lawrence, Jerzy, and Jens Ritter all need to form a Voltron type force, and fight this evil Zarkon type evil doer (13 strings)

wooh.... Voltron metaphor!

Who agrees with me!

Well you can't stop him, but you can certainly laugh at him and make fun of him until he goes home and cries!

In his latest video right before the video is over, he mentiones something to the effect of not having any friends outside of youtube and myspace. So I would assume he wouldn't have to go home and cry, because he's most likely already there.

He doesn't know when to stop, but it's just a waste of his money. If he wants to then why not?

I do agree with most everyone else though, his designs are horrid and have no practical use.

To each their own though.

Peace

-Benny

I indeed would have called him a criminal if he had suceeded in selling his construction grade Pine "Superbass" for the $800 he wanted.

I think that cannot exist such a stupid human being to pay 800$ for an "electric bass" built in that way.

That is funny, I had numerous requests from him to be a "friend" on Youtube. I wrote him once asking why we have never heard it and he claimed wiring it wrong, so I said why don't you take it to a local tech for help, wiring isn't rocket science. He said he didn't have the time. LOL

My guess is the pickups are not real and there are no electronics at all. And am I the only one that thinks most of the 13 are all the same string?

I asked him why using pine and he says he likes it, I suggested several other woods but no luck. He said that's all he can find.

And the comments on Youtube are always hilarious, it just goes to show Zappa was right, there is an element more plentiful than Hydrogen, it's stupidity.
He wanted his 15 seconds of fame and got it, he's got this thread.

The best thing about all this is that he's presenting himself as a true visionary! The first man to ever dare to embark on such a journey!

It's kind of like the "Bad guy" professional wrestler, doing the arrogant rants on the microphone about how he's the big new thing etc. etc, and eventually embarassing himself.

I love this guy! He's completely delusional! I can't wait for his new video for the 14 string thing he's making.

Victor Wooten: "I really like to leave people do what ever they want".
just get over it, he wants a 14 string, let him have a 14 string guitar (why should i call it a bass?)
If he thinks that making a 13 (and now a 14) string instrument will make him feel better and more self confident, i wish him good luck.

So, does that mean that the guy was actually serious? I saw this some months ago and I was convinced it was supposed to be a joke.

It couldn't be a joke. If he was joking, there's no way he could have kept a straight face in those videos. You simply can't be that funny and such a great actor at the same time!
