1st build concerns

So I have been thinking it over for sometime. My girlfriends dad is going to lend a hand a a workshop. He has most of the tools as he builds furniture as a hobby. So the joining and glue is not so scary to me. The problem for me is the fretboard. Have this crazy fear off messing up the radius or slotting it wrong. Anyone out source the boards?

The plan is a 5 string bolt on single cut. not sure on electronics. Either Norstand big singles or a Jazz/mm combo. Woods maple neck. Ash body and walnut top. wide neck and string spacing. Have some conceptual drawings but they are full size

I bought a body from warmoth, they make necks too. I've heard a lot of good things about them.

Warmoth are great quality and expensive. Have a go yourself, it's well worth the experience and not that hard if you take it in small stages. Very rewarding. Plenty of good advice around too. Go for it and good luck.

You can get and already radiused/fretted board. There are plenty of resources... Warmoth, Carvin, Lmii, etc etc

Lately I've been going to LMII for any pre-slotted boards I use, as they have a very broad wood selection, and a diverse set of scale options.

I was all set to slot my own 32" scale board, but decided that it would be more cost effective to spend my time elsewhere, and have them slot it for me.

Now, because it was bloodwood, I had to radius it myself (there are certain woods they won't radius), but that's what I've got those blocks for...

I've built several basses, some from scratch and some using prefabbed necks and bodies. For your first try I would suggest using a preslotted and radiused fretboard from Warmoth or Stewart MacDonald. Also consider buying a radius sanding block from Stewart-MacDonald.
All the basses I built from scratch usually fit a specific function that I could not find anywhere else.
Best of luck and enjoy the project.

Thanks for the replies. Will keep updates coming and more than likely asking more questions.
