It should get in the mid to high 60's this weekend. So I should be able to get some lacquer on it.

It is still raw wood and stain. The surface ended up being a bit ruff due to grain lift from the water based stain. So I rubbed it down with a brown paper lunch bag. Now it is ready for lacquer.

OK, should I put a light tint of orange on the neck?

And pickguard or no pickguard ?

1) Holy Crap, that's beautiful!
2) Please don't stain the neck. The contrast works very well as is.
3) This is one of the very rare cases in which I think the pick guard adds to the overall aesthetic. It usually detracts, but on your bass, it looks great.

Thanks guys. I am gonna go with the pickguard and leave the neck alone.

I hope to use my new toy today! I have been using rattle can lacquer, now time to try a gun. Took a trip to harbor freight last weekend and had a 20% off coupon and the gun was on sale.

That is some very nice work. I bet this thing is going to sound as good as it looks too.

I love the color on this, front and back.

How's that Saranac Pumpkin? I've been disappointed with Saranac, generally. But I keep an open mind.

I am very impressed with your whole approach to this build! Excellent work, and I come away with a couple of new ideas for my own work! Thanks!

He wasn't drinking it. It's the secret ingredient in the lacquer.

This is very close to being my favourite 54-style Pbass ever. Nice work, the finish looks amazing.

Was not too bad. Was looking for something different and grabbed the pumpkin. The place I go to has about 12 different seasonal/craft beers on tap to choose from but I didn't have an empty growler with me.

THANKS everyone for all the great comments on the build!

I don't think I will make the deadline. I want to get some more lacquer on it and let it set for about 2 weeks before I wetsand it. Too cold/wet out today but tomorrow forecast looks better.

I don't like the sound of the SCPB-3 yet.
I am getting a odd distortion sound with it.
I unhooked the pots and cap and wired it straight to the jack and the distortion is still present. I also get it while plugged into the mixer listening with headphones.

I am going to have to play around with the pickup height. Also may take the flatwounds off and try different strings.

I don't know if I may could have messed up the pickup when I wraped it with the white string and wax potted it.

I don't think that string and wax can hurt magnets and wire. If it still works, your special touch didn't do anything.

First of all, the pickup is pretty hot. Try plugging into your "active" input. Or, just turn down the volume on your bass and see it that changes the sound.
Second - get that pup lower - and see how it sounds. I have mine set way low (about twice as far from the strings as my other basses).

Give it a try and you should have rich deep bass, slight midrange scoop, and sparkling highs. I usually roll the treble off a bit and get a smooth, clean tone.

I have chromes on my SCPB-3 equipped bass.

I'm sure someone will buy it if you can't find happiness!

Good luck and rock on!
