First off... Beautiful Bass!

I've been using S.D. 1/4 pounders for a few years now; I have one in my pink paisley P reissue, as well in several other of my basses (mostly the split p version).

I've always been a big fan of that sound, but in the past year, I have started liking a more "vintage" sound (less grind? distortion?)

Maybe one of Seymour's less powerful pickups (or Lollars, Fralins...) may be what you need.

Again... Damn fine looking bass Sir!

I am getting a odd distortion sound with it.
I unhooked the pots and cap and wired it straight to the jack and the distortion is still present. I also get it while plugged into the mixer listening with headphones.

I am going to have to play around with the pickup height. Also may take the flatwounds off and try different strings.

I don't know if I may could have messed up the pickup when I wraped it with the white string and wax potted it.

I just measured 6mm from top of p/u to bottom of un-fretted E (SCPB-3)

On my Delano equipped P, I measure 4mm

The volume is the same if I a/b the two. The sound is very different.

I think the SCPB-3 is actually cleaner sounding - but the low mid grunt and grind of the Delanos may be creating an auditory illusion.

Thanks.
I lowered the pickup and it made a big difference.
Now I will have to wire it up with the pots an and give it a try.
On my other p-bass the 1/4ers split pickups are a lot closet to the strings.
