Sick of searching for the perfect bass so I just decided to build it myself. Alder from the local mill cost me a whole 12 bucks. Picked up a cheap Ibanez for parts. I plan on buying Nordstand pickups (any suggestions?). This bass will have 1 pickup and minimal electronics.

12-4 Gluing body

Sweet! What are your plans for the neck?

Nortstrand anything is a win. It really comes down to your preference for single-coil versus humbucker (though most of their humbuckers can also do single-coil).

yeah!!! that's the way I started building instruments, if you've got "the hands" you can build your killer bass. keep on and update.

I bought an Ibanez gio for the neck and hardware. Definitely a cheap bass but the price was right. Pulling that thing apart I could really see the poor workmanship (they missed the holes in the neck where it bolts to the body haha) I'm going to mod the neck a bit (reshape the headstock, slightly tweak the radius and maybe defret it) and make it my own.

Good plan. That's how I started - new body for an existing neck. Have fun, and post lots of pics!

Cut out the shape, routed the neck pocket (poorly) and lined up the bridge. Here are my results after a long date with the rasp and sandpaper.
