Thank you!
Well I have a day job and a family. So my time to build is very scares. It is a hobby , no the biggest passion of mine. Well I hope to get a living out of this, time will tel.
It is hard to tel how long this takes because I have upgraded a lot of tools and I things going much easier now. But it remains real hand work at the end.

This is going to be the headstock core wood: ovangkol/shedua. I think it wil match nice with the black walnut core in the body. The grain is perfect to get the headstock angle (lucky shot in cutting this from a big block)

I have made the headstock after drawing and calculating. One of the hardest things to make with all the angles etc.
And most of all getting the angle of back of the headstock to flow and blend in (especially for bending the bloodwood and macassar veneer sandwiched on both sides)

Glued the shedua/ovangkol headstock on. (Did some optimizations to the headstock and made a template of it for next builds.)

Before I trimmed the neck exact flush(router) and square (its to hundreds of millimeter exact to specs

That neck route looks clean, nice! I like the wood combo too.

Thank you Robert! Your bass is looking really cool!

Made some progress. Glued the shedua/ovangkol headstock on the neck. Glued the Andaman padauk bindings on the neck. And prepared the ears (walnut) for the headstock.

(there is no glue

That Paduak binding and fret markers look awesome. Very clean work. Everytime I work with Paduak I come out of the shop looking like a giant pumpkin, but it is always worth it. Excited to see this bass take shape and evolve. Keep it up.

Thank you! Yes the padouk is really colorful stuff that gets everywhere. This andaman padouk is great wood to work with. Better than the African species that is more brittle and splintery.

The fretmarkers (bloodwood) where really tedious to make. Had to make the the bloodwood to exact thickness (0,55mm ; slot is 0,6 mm). Than each veneer I had to cut and hand shape to exact fit.

Glued the black walnut ears on the headstock. Cut them in exact concave angle as the headstock is. So carving would be minimal.

I have changed mind about the head stock. Before there where black walnut ears on the head stock. I did not like them, to plain in grain and color.
So I cut them of, not totally there is 3 mm to 2 mm at end of head stock. Then I thought why not do the same as I will do in the body. So I put an padouk laminate next to the walnut. (the body will also have this pattern in the wings.)

Also I have changed my mind about the body core being black walnut. Again the walnut is to plain in grain and color. And I have been searching high and low for other walnut.... then I thought why not shedua/ovangkol? It is heavy but the body is going to be really thin, and the core even thinner of course. So I went for the ovangkol. It has got a great pattern and flames in it. It will compliment the bass very well I think:

Made the veneer for the headstock. Padouk 1mm and on top of that macassar ebony 0,6 mm. Front and back headstock will have these veneers.:

I love the contrast of the fretline markers against the fingerboard. Very cool!

Thank you all! The ovangkol/shedua is from AF indeed. Got it some years back. The guy cut it for me from a big log/plank with a hand saw. It was initial 52 mm so Isplit it with my belt saw to get a nice book match in the wings.

I have got the lamination of headstock done. Pfff that macassar veneer is really hard to work with. But I got it done.
