6 String Jazz Bass Project

Sign in to disble this ad
So for the longest time, I've been wanting to get a 6 string jazz bass for a reasonable price but pretty much NO ONE makes/sells them.

I randomly browsed youtube today and saw a couple vids of guys playing 6 string jazz basses! i read the descriptions of the vids and all the guys converted their 5 string jazz basses into 6 strings.

so now, i've decided that my next bass/project will be to buy a 5 string bass and all the parts to mod it and turn it into a 6 string.

now this is the part where you guys come in-

i need to know everything that i should be thinking about, like what sort of nut width should i be looking for, what bass i should get to mod. i was thinking either the fender deluxe active jazz V or the squier deluxe active jazz 5(i like the body of it better than the fender, but its squire!)

now, i know i'll have to get new pickups, a new bridge, a new tuning machine, and of course a 6th string! haha. anything else i need to get hardware wise?

That would be me.
I now have 2 modded 6ers, a black & white DJAV, & I couldn't be happier.

Dooft11 - that is one fine piece of bass you've got there... what kind of pickups are those?

I developed the bass and planned for some small scale production, the bass will come in barebone with hipshots hardware, and the buyer can decide their own pup and pre. it will reduce the cost and make the bass a semi finished kit.
