6 string zebrawood build

Sign in to disble this ad
here is an update...

Please let me know what you think, be nice though...this is only the second body that I have ever made

I have been working on this for a little while now...

Yes, that is a Warmoth Gecko neck...

This is it after shaping and sanding to 400, and two coats of tung-oil. I got the piece of zebrawood in a scrap bin for around 30 dollars, so the defects in the wood are not going to bother me!

I hope to have more updates soon, I have the hardware and pickups ready to go, just have to wait for the jack to get here!

thanks everyone!

No preamp on this one, yet... I want to see how it sounds with the bart first. If it needs it, then I'll do it. I want the knobs to be on the back of the body in the control cavity... I'm still working on that one.

And thanks for the comments regarding its shape, it is based on a design I made up. Although there are some influences in there, for the most part its my design.

thanks!

I just got done with the fourth coat of tung-oil. I wet sanded with 800 between coats. It is looking good More pics to come soon. I am going to tung-oil the neck probably one coat, then install everything. I have to get off my butt and put my order in with Stew-Mac for the remainder of the parts!

That is, single handedly and without question, the nicest piece of Zebrawood I've ever seen. I generally dislike Zebrawood, but I would more than happily rock that.

thanks everyone! I agree about the zebrawood, it usually looks to uniform for me. This one looks crazy

I am pretty happy that it darkened up as much as it did, that makes it look better with the maple!

this will be my first single pickup bass. I hope that it sounds as good as it looks I am still tossing the idea around with using a preamp on it.

At first the zebra wood wasn't doing it for me, but once the finsh went on my jaw dropped!!! Such a range of colors came out to give it a wealth of depth and dimension. Simply awesome...

Defects? More like character! I like!

Also, the headstock reminds me of the Ibanez BTB range (not a bad thing).
