Carey Nordstrand will wind custom pickups. He wound me a set of Fat Stack 8s. I've also seen Fat Stack 9s and 10s. I had also talked with Seymour Duncan and Aero before settling on Nordstrand and in the price department Carey beat them by a mile. Aero and Duncan wanted a lot of money. Duncan wanted $575 per pickup because they said they had to custom tool for the pickup. Nordstrand was less than that for the pair.

Kent Armstrong will also, most probably, make you a custom set. He would a few years ago, anyway.
But I must second the DIY approach. It's very rewarding, and with some patience and thoroughness, it will sound great - it's not computer science...

For my 7-string I also looked around a bit.
I found Aero but felt they were a bit too expensive.
Then I found BassCulture in Germany, much more interesting and reasonably priced. So I went with those: neodymium dual-coil pickups MM style.

I'd recommend BassCulture.

I should have mentioned bassculture as well. They are quite reasonably priced. I'd like to throw a set in a bass I have in the very preliminary stages.
