8-string

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi everybody,

I'd like to join this fine community by posting pics of my latest project. It's the first one I built in about 6 years ( moving, various jobs, kids etc... ), and I'm quite happy with it.

It sounds really good, I just have never played an 8-string before and am a little lost now. Must build strength, must build strength ...

Wow, this looks amazing.

It's the first time I see a bass that is stringed like a mandolin. Usually an 8 string bass has a neck as wide as a semitrailer.

That's very nice. I couldn't make out the writing on the pickups..... How does it sound?

I'm glad you guys like it

The bass sounds fine acoustically, the pickups ( Kent Armstrong ) are just a little too dark for this one though. I used them on a prior bass and they sounded killer on that one. I didn't mind the lacking high-end response, as the growling low-mids made more than up for it.
For the 8-string however, I think it needs a little more top-end.
It was a poor choice, but easily fixable.
I'll just wind my own replacement-pickups

Looks great, I'd love to try that.

Does the headstock say Mutti? As in German for Mom?

Yes, "Mutti" does mean mother in German. The name is italian however. Having grown up in Switzerland ( german speaking part ), there are not many jokes I haven't heard regarding my last name... so bring it on !

Here's a pic of the back. A fresh maple neck looks so nice when it's still all white ...

Very nice! I like the body shape, almost like a single-cut Jazz taken to an extreme.
