neck profiled volute carved and headstock cut today, shes shaping up nicely and we have decided to use a different more gooderer top i found on evilbay:
hunk o' tree:

cut down and sanded:

better shot of the headstock, a sort of Ibanez/E.S.P hybrid on steroids for extra badness:

and the new improved top:

now we wait for various parts being brewed in labs all across the globe...

I'm liking that headstock shape - how many tuners do you think you could squeeze on there I wonder!

update,
i stuck the ash veneer on the back to match the body wings and i prepared the fingerboard: have a look-----

here im cutting the frets, tip! this may well be the oldest trick in the book but i didnt know it till it was pointed out to me so ill pass it on nonetheless: Take a candle and rub it briskly up and down each side of the saw blade teeth until the metal starts to look cloudy, blow off any little fragments of wax left behind then do the same on the side of your steel rule. The saw will cut effortlessly through the hard, brittle wenge or ebony and you will minimize any tearling out and splintering.

Yeah, unusual choice with the ash veneer. It should look great.

A 36" scale 10 (or maybe even 12!) string tapper will keep you going until you find such a person!!!

Got any rear-views of that headstock with the tuners installed?

Maybe it's just me, but I think that 7+ strings on a guitar are really unnecessary. It's intruding into bass turf, and with guitarists never too shy with that bass boost knob, it worrys me more than a little.

No offence Groovebass, but if we follow that logic modern musical instruments are all unnecessary, why plug in when we could listen to a full orchestra and nix the need for amplification!
This guitar with the heavier strings tuned up to pitch as opposed to tuning lighter strings down, and with its long scale (we hope to eliminate the inhereant floppiness) will offer a different feel and a different sound to a regular or even 7 string commercially available guitar. And in a band setting moreso. This guitar is being used in an all out grind act which has stripped down its members to become a three piece, so it has got it's work cut out for it!
She is encroaching on bass territory, but thats why i thought id share the progress pics with yourselves!
Dont want to sound narky but whether or not it's necessary has already been thoroughly considered by the guy who's going to play it.

And bigwan, you and your tapping guitar, we'll get you a piano with a xylophone on top! Jus jokn Itll happen, just got a few things to finish first
peace
Jamie
