8-string bass parts and neck building

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello,
I'm planning to build an octave stringed 8-string bass. I've been trying to find bridge for it. I know Schaller used to make one. Is it still available? Any other makers you know?
I'm planning to make it 30" scale. How much stronger than a normal 30" neck should I make it? Would laminated, quartersawn maple with carbon rods and truss rod be enough?

I looked at pics of old Hamers. Looks like thy have DiMarzio humbuckers. I wonder if those are made wider than usual or if they are the narrow spaced ones like the ones that fit old Gibson basses.
I'm thinking of machining the bridge out of brass so I'm quessing the string spacing. I know Schaller has 19mm spacing. What spacing might those Hamers have?
