87 MIJ p bass...worth it to refinish?

Sign in to disble this ad
I just bought an 87 MIJ p bass in oly white. i've really wanted a fiesta red for a while, but i got a good deal on the oly white 87. Is it worth it to refinish to fiesta red? I can't do it myself so it would have to go to some custom builder/luthier i'm guessing? Anyone know of any good places/people?

in an investment sense, it's probably not worth it.

you'll likely end up spending $3-400 on a refin.

but if it's worth it to you to get the bass want, then go for it.

pat wilkins http://www.wilkinsguitars.com/ is highly respected around here. seems like finishes start at $250 but my guess is that represents a new body, and that having the body stripped for new paint will end up being extra.

but please let me know if it's $250 all-inclusive, because if so, i'll be sending him at least a couple projects sooner than later!
