Depends on what modifications you're thinking about.

I am not a luthier but i am considering starting a mod on a 1/2 size or 3/4 size classical guitar into a bass but have some ?s This is inspired by my love for the ubass by kala.It is a nice bass but i see room for inprovment manly i think the classical style tuners would be much better IMO.Also its 500 plus for the one i want!

You can search this forum for threads on acoustic guitar conversions and some good info will pop up.

A classical is not the best platform to mod. Due to the natural tension of silk wound and nylon/gut strings, their tension is much less than a comparable steel string acoustic. What this means is that the bracing under the soundboard is weak in comparison to steel string acoustics and classicals don't have trussrods. The bottom line is that in order to run bass strings on it, you can't use the stock bridge or any bridge that is fixed to the soundboard, as it will create too much tension and will eventually cause the soundboard to buckle - probably dramatically.

If you really want to do it to a classical, you'd be well advised to use a floating bridge with a tailpiece to help break up the tension of the steel bass strings. Personally though, I'd use a little steel string acoustic...

Thank you beej but the strings for the ubass are a polyurathain ruber that take less tension than nylon strings.I plan on using a shadow bridge pickup but my problem is more how to mount the ubass strings to the classical at the body. The ubass by kala runs the strings into the body so i do not know how they attach them inside. And i am just looking for a passive plug and play small scale bass nothing hi tech but still hoping to git that upright bass sound the u bass gets. Also i would think with the bigger body it would be a little louder unpluged than a ubass wich is just loud enough to practice by your self.
