Something dark or light?

I've used wenge, maple, cherry, walnut veneers. I don't know the exact thickness, but I think it's roughly .02 to .03 inches thick. Were you looking for resources to buy from?

You know, I was thinking you were referring to those really thin accent lines. Were you thinking something thicker, like 1/8" to 1/4"?

As far as veneer sheets, you may already know about Woodcraft. Can cost more, but the quality has been good for me. There's a few suppliers that sell on Ebay; I can't recall the user names, but I'm sure others here can. The last time I bought from a guy on Ebay, I got a good deal plus a bunch of extra samples...a great deal.

As far as thicker lams go, there are a booty-load for suppliers online. Look for someone who has the wood you need in the size you need and make sure they'll mill it for you. I can recommend some (Larry at Galleryhardwoods.com is on vacation, I believe), but would need to get home and check my bookmarks on the computer. You may want to wait for others here to chime in with online resources they've actually purchased from.

Sometimes for a little thicker accent I do three veneers, like walnut/maple/walnut...

if you just need a really thin accent line, you probably dont need to bother with the expensive exotic stuff. i put in a very thin black dyed maple veneer between the zebrawood top and ash body on my current build.

lmii.com has them in all different colors

I'm trying out a "fiber" accent line on my new build. It's a paper/wood composite from lmii. I've only tried maple before, it wasn't as sharp or as bright as I would have liked. Apparently fiber is tack-sharp, and comes in black and white!

i had a spalt top spector (alder body) with a slice of walnut that looked really great...i have a piece of ebony on my current bass (ash body, walnut top)...i would recommend a darker wood, just for contrast

I used the veneer that LMII has (2mm back veneer, the ones that Barnacle posted) on My headless. Stuff feels like plastic, but it sands nicely. Has anyone tried, "Construction paper", for a real thin one? The thinner veneer material that LMII sells (.6mm, .3mm) almost feels like construction paper.

Interesting idea. Paper is wood fibers, after all. But I would never try it because I've found that the dyes in construction paper fade pretty quickly with light.

Yeah, that is a good point, unless it's white, I suppose. Then again, a nice thick finish, would filter some of the UV light, right? Or at least slow down the process? Though I suspect that the "fiber" veneers sold by LMII are dyed.

Too bad the LMI fiber veneer is so expensive and only comes in 6" wide pieces. Most of my basses are over 12" wide

Maybe it should match one of the neck/fb woods. what are they? personaly, I am always fond of blodwoodwood when it comes to contrasting with light woods. i think they sell bloodwood veneer at lmii as well.

Fiber sticks to glue, which sticks to the wood

when i put the veneer layerr in my current bass i used several different peices, and now i honestly cant see where the seems are.

actually its so thin that in this pic you can hardly see it. it just makes a really clear line between the zebra and ash.
