Accidentally lost some shine on bass finish, polishing won't fix it - help?

Hiya

I decided recently to get my old first MIM jazz bass out - the only slight thing is when I was cleaning it I stupidly used bleach on the back of the upper horn so now the shines gone...the actual FINISH is stil perfect, but just not shiny anymore - how would someone who knows absolutely nothing about refinishing/laquering basses sort it out themselves without cocking it up? It just appears to need a thin coat of the shiny stuff applying to a small section of it (polyeurothane is it? - ok, I know that sounds funny but I've only got this one window open right now) its a near-perfect factory finish and the bass is about 10 years old...

Try some wax first and see if that takes care of it.

Not even tried polish yet Pasda...it is ONLY where the bleach was on the finish - the texture of it is different and everything - I'll try those suggestions first!

Your bass is finished in very thick Polyurethane. Do not sand it, it only needs polishing. Auto products work well on Poly. You will find polishing compounds course and fine. Do not use the course (Usually a tan color) The fine, (if it is Dupont) will be white. You may not need the polishing compound and may only need a paint polish. Wax, usually has no polishing properties and a good polish, has no wax, so pay attention to what you are buying. Try the auto polish and a very soft cloth. Just follow the directions.
