Question Acoustic bass bridge pins - need to locate a source

Sign in to disble this ad
looking for a source for acoustic bass bridge pins for a Martin style 4-string bridge. seems like everybody and their cousin's sister has them for 6/12 string acoustic guitar, but all I get is a field of crickets or a blind stare when I ask for bass pins.

anybody have a good source for these?

all the best,

R

I'm having a heckuva time finding them for myself.
Rock City Guitars near me used to carry them, but they closed a few months ago.

hey K,

long time since I've seen you post here in the LC ... good to know you're still around

if I find a source, I'll definitely drop you a post with the details. if I had a mini lathe, I'd probably make them myself

all the best,

R

Exclamation

here's a tip for posterity:

a bass brige pin typically has a bridge hole diameter of roughly 5/16" (.031")

most acoustic guitar end pins have a 'B' dimension (see image below) of .30" - .32"

so it seems quite likely that an ABG can utilize a standard end pin to replace lost/broken bridge pins. suddenly the sources for ABG bridge pins are quite numerous

if this is incorrect, I will post a follow-up noting this

all the best,

R

There's an article on the newest GAL (#90) where a guy uses method for pinning the strings in where the size of the pin doesn't matter. It's basically two holes connected by a slot for each string.

Where do Fender and Micheal Kelly and Dean and Martin and Ibanez (and every other maker of ABGs) get them???
Where did the cheap-looking plastic pins in my ABG come from?
I pulled one to get a look: it's grooved, which end-pins are not, and the bridge-pin appeared to have little or no taper. I'm buying a mini-lathe.

I just bought some from the Martin online store - no problem, even to the UK.

I would make some on my lathe, but why bother when I can buy them here:

I purchased the pins I used on that bass from Luthier's Mercantile (http://www.lmii.com/CartTwo/thirdpro...+Pins+%2D+Wood) and utilized acoustic guitar endpins - which, after a very slight modification tho the shaft, fit perfectly.

I saw this client's bass about six weeks ago and the pins were still there and holding tight

all the best,

R
