Ebony, roughly, "without the super glassy highs" I've heard people say. I played a Ken Lawrence that had a katalox fingerboard two days ago, but unplugged, but found it in feel and sound to be somewhere between ebony and morado.

I have an old classical guitar with a katalox fingerboard, but it's hard to gauge because the rest of the instrument is pretty well junk. I have a bass coming with katalox fretboard soon, though!

Cool

I had two almost similar Ken Lawrence Brase 5's - one with a chechen fretboard, one with a Katalox - the katalox was a bit warmer, but that might have been from the alder tone block in that bass. It was interesting comparing them, the fretboard, tone block/no tone block, and oil/wax vs gloss poly were the only differences - they were also completed within 12 days of each other! Wish I still had both -

This pic was after I had the one without the tone block defretted. It is now refretted with abalone block inlays - just pimped out a little!

So far this weekend I've played out 4 times -
1. - Lakland 55-94
2. - Alleva Copollo LG-5
3. - Sadowsky 5-24
4. - Ken Lawrence Brase 5

Gotta keep the kids happy!

The tone would be lively and snappy with a strong low end and slightly pronounced mid-hump

You're making me laugh, Wil! You manage to post that maybe once a day, huh?
