Advise on neck pocket depth

Sign in to disble this ad
I routed my neck pocket 14 mm deep, having a neck that's 26,3 mm thick (measured without frets), so it is hovering 12,3 mm above the body. It seems quite high, but it matches the standard bridge height (Gotoh GEB210, 3 mm base plate, 10 mm thick saddles).

Is this too high? Or should I lower the bridge by routing a 2 mm deep 'cavity' for it?

And what would be a good distance from pups to string? I guess when routing the pup cavities 19 mm deep, this distance would be almost 10 mm.... which seems a lot to me.. isn't it?

Look at my thread for detailed pics: First build thread 'Roberts JB4'

I would appreciate some advise on these distance very much!

Perhaps add more neck angle to the neck pocket?

Well, I don't want an angle.

But that wouldn't rule out the question of how high it should be and what would be good distances from pups to strings and body to neck...

put a string on and see how it looks. I would keep the option of routing the bridge in, then when you get to setup, it it is a bit off, just router the bridge space. It would be better than having to raise the bridge space. If you do sink in the bridge, countersunk controls would match pretty well.
