I have a few Spector basses that I need to get set-up. The place I use to bring them to went out of business. Does anyone know someone in NYC that does GREAT bass set ups?

30th street are really cool guys - have many good dealings with them. They're also mentioned in that linked thread.

My guy is Evan Gluck (he's a friend):

There is absolutely nobody better in NYC at set ups than Mas Hino (used to build the Pensa Suhr's than the Atelier Z's)he is currently at the Guitar man..

WOW I called Imai and he charges $95 bucks plus tax and that's with me using my own strings... If I pay that much for a set up that thing better play like pure butter when I get it back!

I read on Evan's site he charges $65..

30th Street charges $65 as well. I brought my basses there once and I didn't like the work of who ever did it. I know for sure it wasn't Matt. I think Matt had some young dude handling the set ups last year when I went there.

Guitar man charges $85

So maybe I will try Evan for $65.. What difference could the other two more expensive guys do for the extra 20-30 bucks? If I pay the extra money will I REALLY notice that much of a difference??

FWIW, Norio worked for Sadowsky and Sadowsky guitars are known for their neck and fretwork. He can charge a little extra for the name recognition.

Not shocked at all.. but most places charge around the 65-70 range so for a set up to be 85-95 I'm wondering what could be so different about their work that warrents spending the extra 20 or 30 bucks. Mike Phillips at Sadowsky use to set up my basses before he left the company and Sadowsky only charged 65 as well for a set up.

I may have a bias since I own Guitar Man but while Evan and 30th Street both do excellent setups, Mas and Norio are hands down the two best guys in NYC. You would be amazed at the people who bring their work to Mas and will not go to anyone else.
