Hi.
Some background.
A while ago I bought this scratch/dent Washburn Taurus T-24, that required a bit of work. There was a crack below the FB, starting from the nut, about 4 cm long. No biggie, I've done these quite a bit. It didn't hurt that the bass cost me 150€, which I considered cheap.
It was playable so I tried it with my amps. For some strange reason it didn't like tubes at all, SS was good. As I don't play SS amps regulary I didn't even bother to repair the crack, the bass has been sitting there a few months.
The present day.
I need a fiver/BEAD now, so I decided the T-24 will do.
Upon inspection I discover that the truss rod nut hex slot was stripped (the reason for the broken neck

), so the trusty Belzer screw extractor kit came to the rescue. No matter what I did, nothing. The nut won't budge, in either direction. Some lube, a few whacks, still nothing. WTH thinks the engineer, fires up the TIG and welds an extension bolt to the "nut".
A bit of smoke, flames and scorched wood later the "nut" cracks in half and reveals the secret to the failures: Also these cheaper ones have dual action truss rods nowadays

. DAMN.
The nut was stripped, so I would've had to replace the nut anyway, but there would have been less scorch marks and the end of the truss rod slot would require less filling.
And I wouldn't necessarily had needed to machine a new tube for the truss rod.
BUT, now there's perfect excuse to install some leds as the FB already came off, and there's quite a few other mods I have in mind for the body.
Since the bent, destroyed truss rod doesn't exist without pics, here ya go.
Regards
Sam
