Bass VI build

Recently I started a new project building a Bass VI.

First a real size print of a picture from a bass VI from the Japanese website:

Next the template for the body:

Then with a jig saw and router, the body (alder):

The neck and fretboard (ebony):

The headstock:

Rounded edges on the body (router):

The contours:

The control plate from a sheet of brass. I will be chromed.

:D what color you thinking? And going to use nitro on it?!?
I like sonic blue and fiesta red with tortoise shell. Those are great.

I was thinking about Candy Apple Red (nitro), matching headstock and a vintage white pickguard.

And the side dots:

Time for the frets and the slot for the nut.

Here you see the tool I used to press the frets in the fretboard. It is placed in a column drill and then you can just press the frets in.

You can see I made the slot for the nut. I also started on the curve from the fretboard to the headstock using a file and a rasp.

TonH 08-26-2012 09:14 AM

This afternoon I finished the transition from the freatboard/neck to the headstock (curve).

Let's continue with the profile of the neck using rasp, file and sanding blocks.

Meanwhile I can start with the pickguard (3-ply vintage white).

Wow, these seem to pop up every week now. :D Looks good so far.

This weekend I got some time to work on this project.

Let's continue with the neck and the pickguard.

As you can see, I am only going to use 3 switches.

I like your transition from back of the neck to the headstock, smooth and balanced.

+1. Some lovely detail there.

Time for the neck pocket.

I used this template which I taped to the body with double sided tape:

Time for the router.

Before....

And after...

The body and neck for the first time together:

It's been a while since I updated this thread.

Here's are some pictures of the work since then.

The cavaties for the electronics, pickup's, tremelo, bridge, etc.

And the neck with clear coat and decal.
