To make the holes for the pickups in the pickguard to be perfect, I made a tool. A pvc pipe, normally used for electrical wiring and some sanding paper attached to the pipe with double sided tape.

The result....

To make the 45 degree angle on the side of the pickguard, I made a template of MDF to guide the router.

The body is ready for a paint job.

First the primer.

I used rattle cans with acrylic lacquer that will work fine with nitro cellulose lacquer (Candy apple red).

As promised some pictures of the body with Candy apple red applied. They are taken in artificial ligtht, so you can't see the metallic so good.

I will take some more pictures in sunlight during daytime.

Remember that there is no clear coat applied yet.
With the clear coat it will be much more shiny!!!

While the paint is drying I have time to put aluminiumtape on the backside of the pickguard.

Looking good man. That's goona pop once the clear is on. What color undercoat did you use? Gold or silver? I'm still trying to figure out what color I'm going to go with on my VI.

The undercoat is gold.

When do you have to decide wich color you are going to use?
And where can I see pictures of your VI?

Well I want to order paint this week so I can hopefully get started next weekend. The builder was supposed to ship it out this week, but I haven't received any notice that it shipped yet. Part of me wants to spray a burst, but part of me wants to do firemist silver. Shell pink and a vintage looking oly white are in for consideration as well. It's always tough for me to choose. Here's a couple of pics of mine.

Looks great!! With a white binding on the neck (very nice) I wouldn't choose a white color but something darker. But that is just my taste.

Man, that's pretty.

Can we hear it in action, too?

The weather was cloudy the last couple of weeks. Next weekend it will be sunny and freezing, so that will be perfect for pictures outside.

Lol! Sunny and freezing sounds like fun. What pickups did you go with? I assembled mine and made sure everything fit well. I got started on the finish, but then got sidelined by the flu. Hope to be back at it by this weekend.
