First off, I know it's not a bass, but have mercy
Today I started on my first luthiery project, a 7 string guitar. I have been super excited about this, and it was great to finally start. I'm not building the neck for this first project, I found that a bit daunting for my first go. Next time though (6 string bass

)
Here are the specs:
-Neckthrough (Maple, from Carvin)
-2 humbuckers (Also from Carvin)
-1 vol., 1 tone and a 3-way toggle switch
-Sperzel locking tuners
-Carvin FT7 bridge
As you can see many parts were ordered from Carvin, but I will not be ordering anything from them in the future. Their shipping dept. is terrible, I had to call customer service about all 3 of my orders (and I'm not impatient either, I once waited more than 2 weeks before calling, and when I did I was told that the order was there and they "weren't quite sure" why it hadn't been shipped

)
I worked for about 2.5-3 hours total today, and got the beginning of the horns cut out and the sides glued on. Here are the pictures from day one

And this is what I had at the end of the day. I'll be back at it tomorrow. This is the only thing I like about college so far... the wood shop is open from 9AM til 10PM all week, and noon to 5 on weekends.

I'll update this thread as I go... criticism is welcome, and I'm sure it will be deserved. I haven't had any training in luthiery, I'm going off a book (Melvyn Hiscock's) and my general knowledge of guitars and carpentry. I'm thrilled
(I apologize, I would have the pics in the thread but photobucket is being wacky with the resizing. I'll be sure to resize in advance next time. Let me know what you think!!!)
