Bill Conklin: GT-7 fingerboard cracking

Sign in to disble this ad
I discovered today that I have a crack after the 24th fret on my bass. It goes from the end of the fingerboard to the 24th fret, but I can't tell how deep. Is this normal? (Dumb question)... And how can I fix it/ get it fixed?

I had craking on the laminaning betwwen the woods on the neck on my GT-4. I used wood glue to repair....but it left nasty residue outside of the crack. So, don't try to fix this problen on your own, unless you are a good carpenter.

I'm not. Thanks for responding. I'm curious to see what Bill has to say about it. I'm kinda scared I'll have to get major (expensive) surgery done, or worse yet, get a new bass. I am under warranty, I think

Probably best to contact Conklin directly. Generally, hairline cracks can be repaired with CA glue, which is a gap-filling transparent glue, and should stop the crack from getting larger.

i'm sure bill will hook you up, man...even though you have a gt bass, i'm sure he'll stand behind it and do everything he can to correct the problem. i've talked to him a couple of times directly, and he's a super nice guy. give him a call...
