So I want to put a black line between the body core and top of a bass. What to use?
Inspired by this Ristola bass:
He says "black veneer."
Good to know, not quite enough info.
What say you folk?
Does 1/8" ebony veneer in sheets that large (half body width) even exist?
Is it something else, like dyed maple?
Anyone have a source for this stuff?
thanks! |

I purchased the Wenge from an eBay seller in Vancouver, WA for an extremely reasonable price. I'll have to look to see what the name was
For the Walnut, I wanted something a little thicker so I made it myself from a 8/4 rough board I purchased at a local lumber yard. If I was to do it again, I would utilize a 3/4" re-saw blade on my bandsaw (didn't have one at the time) so as not to waste so much wood due to the wavy cut from a blade designed for other purposes
all the best,

Some example shots:

no red hues in any of the Wenge I've worked with before ... just lots of splinters waiting to live under your skin

Thanks guys, appreciate all the input.
I've been making plans forever now, doing all my research, etc., but now that I'm getting down to the nitty-gritty of purchasing materials I'm discovering gaps in my planning. |

How easy is it to match-up narrow sheets to cover an entire body width without gaps? |

The sheets are plenty long enough for several basses, and plenty wide enough. He also sells some good dyed purple veneer that I buy. He packs and ships very well too.
I was a little concerned that since it was 'dyed', the color might fade with sanding or wiping of spirits, etc., but I've had very good results with it so far. |
