Hey, i found this on Ed Roman guitars site.
"Bloodwood has been asked for by some of the people in the Goth Community for obvious reasons.
Personally it does nothing for me as a tonewood or even a cosmetic wood.
It is a dull bland purplish red and has very little character.
Ed"
Kinda curious as to what other Luthiers think of this?
thanks
-James

As far as a bass/guitar body though, I don't know. For me, there's not enough figure to make it interesting. I'd probably opt for a more figured wood and then stain it to my color choice.

The board I'm glaring at doesn't look dull- it's a nice red. Of course, this romance is young and I'm still infatuated. |

Yes, wild variegation and/or curl or row figure is not at all common. Yes bloodwood is as vibrant a red wood as there is and it retains its color much better than padauk and chac te kok. It has a good janka and stiffness and can be used anywhere in the neck you see fit.
So if you like/need a red element in your bass, by all means use it. I have used it many times as neck laminates.

My main bass has an alder body and a bloodwood top. It looks and sounds great, and gets lots of compliments. |
