i've been thinking about replacing my fretted neck with a new fretless neck. my question is, which fingerboard would be more wear resistant, bloodwood or pau ferro? i don't really want to use ebony. |

Also very hard and comparable to bloodwood from a density point of view. I've used it on a couple fretlesses and it has a nice fretless 'sizzle ' to it. Even with rounds, it will be years of heavy use before it has to be dressed.
I think it's really an aesthetic choice. what's going to look the best on your particular instrument.....
BUT............... bloodwood IS red :-) |

This Ebony is getting higher and higher due to export restrictions. There are other ebonys, but bloodwood is still slightly cheaper and it's RED!!

I used to use it making furniture, until I was sensitized to it. I was sick for months coughing up redish flegm. Not fun. Like many rain forest woods, it contains some pretty awful toxins, and the dust can be powder fine and permeate your lungs very rapidly.
