Yea the bocote I got was pretty crazy. Half of it was wild and the other half was dead quarter. I was planning on using rosewood for the fretboard but when I saw that peice I couldn't resist.
Here's the specs in this bass
32" scale 24 fret 4 string
Spanish cedar core
bocote top
mahagony and bocote 3 peice neck(not my preference but I had to)
bocote FB
walnut/maple/bocote and bloodwood accents here and there in the body
emg p/j pickups
sperzle tuners (again not to happy about these but I have them so I
using the)
hipshot bridge
this is a reaaally little bass. It actually fits into a guitar bag. I have some pictures of it next to a jazz bass that I'll post later.

The wood's obviously gorgeous, but also the shape, the carving, and the little details you've added are really cool. This is the first bass I've seen in a while that's making me think I need another... |

| | | | I start with a surform then I do most of it with different rasps and then a lot of 60 grit paper.
I've been working on the finish mostly these past couple of days. The cedar just drinks up the oil...

| | | | How does the Spanish Cedar compare weight-wise to western red cedar? Any idea? I can dry red down to about 20 lbs/cft. I would think the Spanish is somewhat more dense. |

| | | | I've never used red cedar so I don't know. Maybe someone with experiance with both of them can chime in here

| | | | If I had looked a bit more...26 lbs for Spanish cedar. Since I can dry red down to 20lbs/cft, that is a difference of 1/2 lb per board foot. I was just thinking that it would make a lighter bass, that's all. Maybe 1/2 to 3/4 of a pound.
How do you find the Spanish to work with? Easy to shape and sand? Do you know if it resists dings fairly well? Red has almost zero resistance, but can look nice. |

| | | | This one is for me. I still want to refine the design a little more before I start sellng them. I'm probably gunna get rid of the scroll and make it a little sleeker. I really wanted a crazy lookin bass though and I think I accomplished that. After I finish my scrap wood guitar I'm working on I'll be planning some basses to put up for sale.
