body thickness??!@# help!@!

heya guys!

i am in the process of a 4 string neck through bass
is there any rule for the thickness beside the PU size?

i got atm a blank wood of 5.7CM and after ill cut it be left with 5
how thick will you do it?
i was thinking about 4,
since doing a back arch top(forgot the name) back maybe 4 and 3.5 in the middle =)

As long as it's space enough for the pickups and electronics it doesn't matter much.

IMO 50mm is way too thick. It will be very heavy. 40mm is pretty common.

If you go anything below 35mm you need to be careful so you don't run out of depth for electronics.

I try and stick with a final thickness of 4.5cm, well actually 1 3/4" here.

On a chunky body i'd go 1.75" (4.445 cm), Moderate 1.50" (3.81 cm) and thin 1.25" (3.175 cm), but that's the 3 most popular body thicknesses I do.

Archtop, I'd start at a minimum of 2" (5 cm) and even that would be a thin carve.

We did a 4.7ish and we might do a tiny archtop like the warwick,but only at the edges
