Here's my shot at making a "production" model (if you want to call it that ), that i'll be offering up as a model....Sorta like a jazz, sorta like a ray.........

***Warning: This page may load slow, lots of pics***, now that you've been warned........

So, i'll put down some random pics of this (ad)venture. Since it's a prototype I decided to do wooden pickup covers too (an option).

Specs:

5 string.

3 piece Swamp ash body.

5 piece curly maple/wenge with a tru-oil finish, swamp ash heastock veneer.Threaded inserts and machine bolts. (control cavity too), with graphite rods.

Madagascar ebony fretboard with red oak dots (3/8")

2 Nordstrand NJ5FS jazz pickups

Nordstrand 2 band electronics....active/passive w/passive tone control.

Hipshot type A bridge.

Gotoh tuners.

Black hardware.

Brass nut.

A little more work on this and i'll be done...............And on a scale, without the electronics and pickups, it is a hair over 7lbs

nice!! I like your take on that traditional headstock shape and that you veneered over the top (I really, really, really dislike stripes on a headstock face)

so did you go with the 3-piece SA body for cost purposes or ???

all the best,

R

Actually, I was trying a new supplier and since this is a proto....but no, the bodies for customers are going to be only 1 and 2 piece, depending what they want..

I really dig the Body shape. The only thing I don't like are the wooden pick-up covers, otherwise it's a beautiful bass.

What are your plans for the knob layout?

I'm debating an "inline" and "diamond" setup.....I need to figure that part out....

well taking into account that you have a Music Man'esque body shape I'd go with an inline layout.

I was just razzin' ya. After following your threads for months and months, I've developed a system to cope with their bandwidth suckery:

First, I open your thread in a new window.

Next, I go out and plant some grape seeds in the yard.

Then I wait for them to grow, ripen and be plucked and juiced.

Then, I bottle it.

Then, when the wine has aged appropriately, I pop the cork, return to your thread, and then wait for the last image to load before scrolling to the top and beginning to read...

Yeah, stop w(h)ining, that stuff gives you headaches

Another thing to note: I will be offering 3 body shapes for bolt ons, this one and single cut version of this body and another, undisclosed for now......

Nice work Jason! It reminds me of the Gary Willis Ibanez Bass. Is it agonising that it's a righty?

Looking cool Jason, may I suggest a 360x480 picture size? would definately save some aging and pillow time on the thread?

You did a great job of getting the three pieces of that body to work together. It looks bitchen. I also like the brass inserts for the neck bolts. Nice touch.

Excellent!

I love these threads and the showcase of skill involved in making a dead piece of wood come back to life. Awesome.
