Book suggestions...

Sorry if this gets asked. I tried to search it.

Just wondering if there is a book out there that you'd suggest for somebody who wants to get into builing solid body electric guitars (mainly basses, of course), but has really no experience with wood working or anything like that... meaning me.

Basically the bare bones "101" type of book.

Yeah, I heard a few good things about that one too. Looks like a good starting point.

Well thats an easy one.

There are two books for the buid itself. The first is Melvyn Hiscocks book which was already mention and the second (a perfect complement) is Building Electric Guitars from Martin Koch. Id read both before touch any little piece of wood.

I read Kochs after my first project and I wish I would read it before start playing around. Have to say that like you, I didn't made anything before my project and the only wood I have seen till that moment was the furniture and floor of my place . With those 2 books youll get almost everything you need to know to start building.

I would look into every thread here in LC and over internet (thats what I did) to see how other guys deals with the problems they find in their buildings and really helpfull tips. There is a lot of info here in LC that you wont find in any of those books.. and there are a few which are really helpful.

For the finish steps I would look for Understanding Wood Finishing written by Bob Flexner. This will give you a deeper knowledge than any of the books mention before.
