Question Brass Nut Removal

Sign in to disble this ad
Sorry if this has been discussed before but I couldn't seem to find any posts relating specifically to this. I want to replace the nut on my Brice Z6 fretless since it was made with crazy uneven string spacing (not just a reasonable compensation for string thickness, but an obvious manufacturing issue). The original nut is brass and I was wondering if there was any tip to safely remove a brass nut (other than what has been discussed in general about nut removal) without damaging the neck. Thanks.

can you post a pic? most nuts can be removed by clamping the neck firmly and tapping gently from the side with a small flat screwdriver and mallet.

If it's been glued in you may want to use a soldering iron to heat it before tapping/prying. That'll help soften the glue, depending on what type of glue was used.

I haven't tried for years so it could be difficult. But seriously, I'll give it a go with the soldering iron and some careful tapping. Thanks for the suggestions.
