Bridge Alignment

I am replacing a stock bridge on an Ibanez with a Hipshot Bridge. The hipshot will cover all the mounting holes from the stock bridge.

How do I get proper alignment?

So I googled for some info on how to set the distance from nut to bridge: Measure from bottom of nut to center of 12th fret. Take this measurement (17" in this case) and go from 12th fret to center of bridge - correct?

Any idea on how to "square" it to the body?

...you know where the center of the nut is and you know where the center of the fretboard is...

Extend the center line and place the center of the front and back of the bridge on that line.

Are you talking about setting your intonation?

He's talking about placing the bridge so the intonation can be adjusted properly, if I'm understanding right.

I'd mount it a little further back than half way. There's never really any time when the saddle needs to be ahead of 34 inches (on a 34" scale like yours). I'd set it so it's just a tad under 17 inches from the 12th fret when it's adjusted all the way forward.

That will give you the most adjustment range. Just don't make it any further than that.
