Bridge Cover Mute?

Sign in to disble this ad
Does anyone have any ideas what would be a good mute to mount under the bridge cover of a P-bass?

I've heard felt and I've also heard foam...

Suggestions please?

Of course both were used back when. I carry different size / thicknesses of foam that can be tucked under the cover when desired. That allows for varying degrees of muting.

Any recommended types of foam/felt and what thicknesses do you use?

Also, did you remove the bridge cover, laid the foam over the saddles and then replaced the cover? Or just wedge it in?

Also, know of any web stores, or types of stores, where I might be able to find it or where would be a good place to look?

Last time I watched the "Standing in the Shadows of Motown" DVD, I froze some of the close-ups of Babbitt's bass. He used a narrow, rectangular piece of brown foam sponge matierial that easily looked like it might have been cut off the end of a kitchen sponge or something. Nothing special, from the look of it.

He had the foam tucked under the strings in front of the bridge. No cover.
