Bridge Question

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm building a bass from parts, and I'll post pics commentary etc as I get closer to finish. Right now I'm in the process of finishing the body. Getting it ready from Lacquer.

I ordered a bridge, Hipshot A style, and the screws that came with it seem a bit too long. They are like a 1/2" longer than a bridge screw from my Fender. I would use regular Fender screws but the head on the Fender screw was just a bit smaller and doesn't fit the opening quite right.

Ideas?

Thanks.

Can you get away with drilling the existing pilot holes deeper without getting too close to drilling through the other side of the body?

If not, you could always cut a little bit of the ends of the screws off with a Dremel tool so that they aren't too long.

Also, call Hipshot and double-check that they sent you the right screws.

Find a good hardware store- not a Lowe's, Home Despot, etc.- one where the sales person is 40+. You're looking for a hardware store that sells individual pieces, not eveything pre-packaged. They will have what you need. Shouldn't cost more than $2-3.

Graingers or Fastenal will have your screws too, but might have clueless counter people.

It's not so much the Hipshot's being the wrong screws, this body is just a bit thinner that a regular body.

There's a good old fashioned hardware store just up the street from where I work! Good idea!
