Does anyone know anything about bridges? I have an old short-scale bass that I am restoring and I am looking at getting a Badass Bridge for it. Are there any bridges out there that are equally good that would be a little bit easier on my wallet?

In my opinion the Gotoh 201 does the job. You may have to watch out for string spacing though on a short scale. Some short scales have narrower spacing than stock Fender 34" scale basses, which is what both the Badass and Gotoh are designed to replace.
