British Equivalent of Warmoth.com

Hey, This is my first time ever posting on this forum, so i dont know if this is the right place. And hello!

Im building a project jazz bass, and what i want is a Bubinga Jazz bass body, with a Wenge neck, and Ebony fingerboard.

Warmoth have it, but because of my age i cant by it myself so my dad would have to (over the net) and he refuses to buy from America (due to postage and all that)

So i need to find a place to buy these two items, from Britain.

Thank you.

<Rowan

sadly, stuff is expensive over here, and a lot of stuff you just cant get, like bubinga bodies

Unless you get it from a luthier or off ebay, or make one yourself, i doubt you will be able to get one.

at Arnold laver you can get certain woods, like sapele, ash etc....but no exotic stuff

Well im 15... I know this is a bit far to be goin for a bass for a 15 year old lol, but im just one of those people unfortunatly.

So i wont be able to make one myself out of a blank, as for my dad, i dont think he'd want to. He's done to much allready for me recently i dont want him to do anymore. its not fair lol.

But i might look into building one of my own, by the time i save up to get all this stuff ill probally have a wife and two kids anyway

What are the extra costs to buy somethi from America? Like VAT, Tax, Shipping and all that.

Cheers guys

<Rowan

EDIT : Since this is the "Lutheir" section, i might aswell ask roughly what it would cost to get a luthier to build and route a jazz bass body, and a neck. Standard specs and all that, except the wood of course.

I live in North Devon, England, if theres any luthiers in the area who could give me THERE quote, as it would probally be more helpful.

ive imported a whole bunch of stuff from america, and believe you me, its probably more expensive to ship stuff from america to singapore than america to europe. yet i do it, cos no one sells what i want in singapore, ive just got to suck it up and buy it.

that being said, ive paid for all my bass stuff myself. im 20. unless i am misreading you, perhaps if you paid your dad off he wouldnt take it so badly.

you know, mow the lawn, shovel snow, that kind of stuff. whats more is that your pound is worth so much more than the Sing Dollar...

Well this body, and the neck together could cost anythi up to £800 lol. And he recently bought me a 5oo watt Trace Elliot stack, and a Line 6 PODxT Live. So just saying "yo paps i need more moneh" wouldnt be to smart.

But ill get there eventually. I dont NEED a new bass right now, but i really want one. All i have at the mo is a squire jazz bass, with a replaced maple neck, and fender 60's custom pups. But it doesnt feel to good, or give the sound i want. or look how i want it lol..

I'll happily make it for you, just PM me if you want and we can talk about your requirements and cost.
also in devon there is Norman Reed guitars in Totnes he'll make you one no probs just phone and ask for Phil.
the cost of shipping isn't to bad, I ship from the states all the time coz the zoots better and even with the shipping cost it's still cheaper than buying here!!!
the standard import charge goes like this -
add cost of item to the cost of shipping, import duty is 3.5% of that total then add your item, shipping and 3.5 % together then add 17.5 Vat to that total. thats it, not fun but some times you don't get any charge at all, they don't bill everything that goes through. I just got 2 large redwood burr body blanks sent over with no charge. cool!
