With that perspective, it's probably not a terrible thing. I think the neck will be a complete loss. If the electronics are good perhaps all is not lost. Carvin sells (at least used to) neck through blanks. I suppose it all depends on how handy you are and how much you enjoy a project.

Necks break all the time, it is not a big issue unless you mess around with it before giving the job to a pro. |

Here's a couple pages that show common repairs: http://www.guitarspecialist.com/headstocks.htm http://www.fretnotguitarrepair.com/repair_pictures4.htm
Google "guitar broken neck repairs" and you's see a number of different people repairing neck/headstock breaks, including with gorilla glue.
Personally, I would find a reputable luthier.

| | | | Yeah, that doesn't seem to bad. You could fix it yourself more than likely without any huge problems.
Since it seems to be a tight crack, I personally would probably drill a really small hole into the crack with it all clamped together. Then unclamp it and use a syringe with some wood glue in it to force it into the cracks. I'm sure other people have better techniques. |

I agree with Mikey, If I bought this from a dealer I would certainly try to get them to be fully responsible for repairs or replacement.

Which is about what a Waterstone Ozone went for on ebay last weekend. The bass is nice besides that darn crack.

Especially if the bass can be had from other sources for the new reduced price. Or is the Ozone a different instrument?
I understand that you want to be nice about it, but it's still bidness, amirite? |

I understand that you want to be nice about it, but it's still bidness, amirite? | You are right, but I am hoping the seller will have learned a costly lesson(if we come to terms) to not go cheap on shipping someone else's stuff. And I've given him some polite suggestions for the future, like slipping in a some plywood strips...a couple of pieces of cheap 1/4" luan inserted into the box at 90 degrees from the fretboard and we wouldn't be having this thread. I save my negative feedback(usually) for people who refuse to compromise at all. I've directed the seller to this thread....
Thanks for all the suggestions folks. I think this thread has served it's purpose.
Peace Out.

An easy job for a luthier.
I've repaired much, much worse and I don't even consider myself a luthier .
